Belgorod Restores Mobile Internet and Street Lighting After Months of Disruptions

The acting governor of Russia's Belgorod region, Alexander Shuvaev, has ordered the restoration of mobile internet services and the reactivation of street lighting in the city of Belgorod. This move comes after months of intermittent shutdowns that have affected residents' daily routines and household management.

Starting the evening of May 30, mobile internet services were reportedly stabilized and street lighting reinstated in the city, according to Shuvaev's announcements. Decisions regarding these services in other localities within the region will be made by local authorities based on the evolving operational situation.

Prolonged disruptions of mobile internet and street lighting since October 2025 have placed significant pressures on households, complicating communication, limiting access to online financial services, and affecting general safety. Moscow’s conflict-related damage to infrastructure has caused frequent power outages, prompting the city’s mayor, Valentin Demidov, to implement partial shutdowns of street lighting to reduce stress on the energy grid and expedite power restoration following shelling incidents.

"These service interruptions have not only disrupted communication but also affected the security and financial activities of our citizens," said an official familiar with the situation.
